CHANDIGARH: With low pressure drastically cutting down water supply to residential areas in the city, residents have taken to using separate water meters at each floor.
People living on the first and second floors of multi-storeyed houses are the worst affected.
"We have a three storeyed house and after much trouble, we asked our tenants to use a separate water pipeline on their floor.

This has not only helped us resolve the problem of low water pressure but has also resulted in smaller water bills," said Neha Thakur, a resident of Sector 19.
As far as MC superintendent engineer Ramesh C. Dhawan is concerned, complaints of low water pressure are unjustified. The solution he has in mind is, rain. "People are not used to low water pressure and as pressure drops even a bit, they start complaining. We expect rainfall by June 10, so people should cooperate and minimize the use of water," he said.
"The main reason for water shortage is that people living on ground floors open their taps early in the morning, due to which people on the first and second floors are not able to receive water supply. The gap can only be bridged if people start cooperating with those living on higher floors," he added.
"Separate pipelines for each floor is another alternative. The problem of water currents is a default problem from the electricity department," the superintendent engineer said.
